['reɪnɪ, 'riːnɪ], James Crerar, kanadischer Schriftsteller, * South Easthope (bei Stratford, Ontario) 1. 9. 1926; seit 1960 Professor für englische Literatur an der University of Western Ontario. In seinen Gedichten erhebt er die Erinnerung an seine Kindheit und den Lebensrhythmus im ländlichen Ontario ins Mythologische (»Twelve letters to a small town«, 1962; »The dance of death at London, Ontario«, 1963). Auch seine Dramen kontrastieren die Welt kindlicher Unschuld mit der Erfahrung des Erwachsenen (»The killdeer and other plays«, 1962; »Masks of childhood«, 1972). Seine neueren Stücke wenden sich verstärkt der Lokalgeschichte zu (»The Donnellys«, Trilogie, 1975-76; »Wacousta!«, 1979).
